Rare Very Early 17th Century Bidriware Ugaldan Spitoon with Silver & Brass Inlay    Rare Very Early 17th Century Bidriware Ugaldan Spitoon with Silver & Brass Inlay

Extremely Rare Very Early 17th Century Bidriware Ugaldan Spitoon with Silver & Brass Inlay. Bidriware is known to originate from 12th century, but virtually impossible to find and date pieces to this era. Originally made mostly as utilitarian objects such as utensils and table ware like this spitoon. It could be quite a bit earlier and definitely appeals as so, but as noted it is very hard to confidently date pieces much before 1650s. This Ugaldan has Tarkashi brass inlay wirework underside bowl and around bowl centre, rim and edge.

It is known that only earlier pieces pre 1725 used this two metal technique. Post 1725 saw only silver inlay in use, so I can be confident the piece is older than 1725. Obvious losses to the Taihnishan silver inlay throughout, also some losses to the Tarkashi brass inlay wirework, mainly around the bowl outer edge. About 7.5cm tall x 12.5cm wide at top. A wonderful opportunity for collectors to aquire this truly ancient and rare example of original Bidriware.
